Via Simon, we received the request if he would like to go and visit two older sisters, residing in a rural area near Victoria Falls.
Two sisters, late sixties and early seventies, together in a small cottage.
The youngest, T., was seriously ill: heart failure, kidney failure, diabetes, and on top of that, an abdominal virus. Because of this, she couldn't keep down her essential medication for her chronic illnesses.
What started as a concern for one person turned out to be a situation that was much bigger and more tragic upon arrival.
There was hardly any food.
The roof of their hut leaked due to the heavy rainfall.
And precisely then — when you are sick — a dry, safe place is not a luxury, but a basic need.
The older sister was visibly relieved and grateful when Simon arrived with some food: rice, oil, and vegetables.
She took his hand and didn't let go.
Her gesture spoke volumes in silence.
It touched us deeply.
Together with local stakeholders, we acted immediately.
We raised money so T. could see a specialist for a check-up and treatment.
It was crucial that the vomiting stop, so she could keep down medication and nutrition and regain her strength.
Additionally, we purchased a large tarp to protect the leaky roof from the rain.
A small intervention — with a big impact.
We will continue to follow and support the sisters where needed.
