About us

About us

Moyo Care Foundation was founded on the belief that everyone has the right to medical care, even when resources are lacking. The Shona word Moyo means ‘heart’ - and that is exactly where our commitment comes from: from the heart.
We are a small-scale foundation with a large network. By working directly with local professionals in Zimbabwe, such as physician Dr. H. Ranganai in Victoria Falls, we can provide help that is personal, efficient and effective.

We believe in small-scale, transparent help where every euro counts - and counts for someone. Our strength lies in the simplicity of our approach. No unnecessary intermediate steps, but direct support for medical care, paid to the hospital or center itself. That way we can be sure that help gets to where it is needed.
Behind Moyo Care Foundation are people with a passion for equitable care and collaboration, and with a deep respect for the local context in which we work. We build bridges between worlds - with trust, commitment and openness as our foundation.

Introducing

My name is Lizette Vlok and I live in Giessenburg, South Holland. After a drastic period in my life, I decided to embark on an adventure with my neighbor in October 2022 - a journey through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. What began as a personal journey of discovery became a turning point.

Not only did I fall in love with Africa, I found love there all over again: Simon. Since then, I have visited Zimbabwe regularly and lost my heart to the country and its people. What we experienced there together touched and shaped us deeply. It taught us to live with attention, to enjoy with gratitude and to give where we can.

Simon has long been committed to helping children in the rural areas around Victoria Falls. Together with an American organization, one of the things he helps with is collecting shoes for children who sometimes walk miles to school, and financial support so they can take exams. In the spring of 2025, during one of my stays in Zimbabwe, we cared for Pilate - a seriously ill man without resources or help. That experience touched me so deeply that the seed was planted for Moyo Care Foundation.

With this foundation, we want to help people who do not have access to medical care or medicine. Moyo means ‘heart’ in Shona, and that is exactly what it is all about: providing help with a warm heart. Coincidence or not - Simon also carries the last name Moyo. With that, the name of our foundation was born.

As founder and driving force behind Moyo Care Foundation, I maintain contacts with local organizations, hospitals and communities together with Simon. His network and involvement on the ground make our help targeted, personal and effective.

We want to help as many people as possible, because access to medical care should not be a privilege.

All help is welcome. Will you participate?
With warmest regards, Simon & Lizette

Introducing the team.

Hi, we are Henriëtte and Renske and are part of the board of the Moyo Care Foundation.

With different backgrounds, but one shared mission: to make medical care accessible to all.

About Henrietta:

I am Henriëtte, married to Sijmen, and together we are the proud parents of two children. In daily life I enjoy working in a general practice. My heart especially beats faster with emergencies - the unexpected, the immediate action, that's where my passion lies.

Working in healthcare gives me the opportunity to really be there for people. Whether it's a newborn baby or a very elderly patient, chronic complaints or acute distress - I find it valuable to be able to mean something to someone else.

I feel the same commitment to the Moyo Care Foundation, a wonderful initiative of Simon and Lisette. Their mission to make medical care accessible to people who cannot afford it themselves touches me deeply. Everyone deserves good care, regardless of origin or financial situation. That is why I am happy to dedicate myself to this foundation - because I believe care should be available to everyone.

About Renske:

I am Renske, together with Erik mother of two wonderful children. In daily life I deal with finances at the Orange Association Giessenburg, where we organize all kinds of village activities for young and old. I am also a board member of the neighborhood association, so that we continue to nurture the interconnectedness in our neighborhood with a neighborhood barbecue, children's outings and Christmas treats.

Outside these board positions, I enjoy playing sports - well, I mostly play sports anyway 😉 - in a recreational volleyball team, where we even got promoted last season. That combination of organizing, calculating and a good amount of fun is what I like to put into Moyo Care. I want to put my heart and soul into raising as many funds as possible, so that we can make a real difference in developing countries for people without access to affordable medical care.

Together, we at the Moyo Care Foundation bring a mix of medical expertise, organizational experience and a tremendous drive to provide care where it is needed most. We look forward to contributing with this foundation to a world where no one is left out in the cold when faced with a medical problem.
